Korea-China-US Seminar
- Çѹݵµ ÆòÈ­¿Í ¿ª³» ¾Èº¸¿¡ ´ëÇÑ ÇÑ-Áß-¹Ì ¼¼¹Ì³ª

The Asia Foundation will organize a Korea-China-U.S. seminar in June, bringing in experts from around the region and the United States to discuss complex relations between Korea and China and the implications for the United States.

Public forum on Development Challenges in Islamic Societies
- À̽½¶÷ ±¹°¡ °³¹ß »ç¾÷ÀÇ µµÀü°ú °úÁ¦: Àεµ³×½Ã¾Æ ¿Í ¾ÆÇÁ°¡´Ï½ºÅº

The Asia Foundation organized a public forum on Development Challenges in Islamic Societies: A Focus on Indonesia and Afghanistan on April 18 with the participation of Douglas Ramage and Jon Summers, Asia Foundation representatives to Indonesia and Afghanistan, respectively. The public forum was held to raise awareness of the challenges of implementing effective development programs in difficult circumstances, and to showcase the Foundation¡¯s work and expertise in the region.

- ÇØ¿Ü¿øÁ¶ Àü¹®°¡ Åä·Ðȸ

An expert¡¯s dialogue on development cooperation took place on April 17. Organized by The Asia Foundation and co-hosted by the Korean Council on Overseas Cooperation, leaders of NGOs with development programs in South and Southeast Asia and Asia Foundation Representatives to Indonesia and Afghanistan, Douglas Ramage and Jon Summers met to share experiences and discuss challenges of development cooperation.


North Korea Experts meet to discuss technical assistance to North Korea
- ´ëºÏ ±â¼úÀû Áö¿ø¿¡ °üÇÑ Àü¹®°¡ Åä·Ðȸ

The Asia Foundation, Korea Institute for Economic Policy (KIEP) and the European Commission Office in Korea co-sponsored an international meeting of North Korean specialists from Korean government, other bilateral agencies, UN agencies, the World Bank, and NGOs to discuss the topic of ¡°Knowledge Sharing with North Korea,¡± on March 31.

2006-2007 Nieman Journalism Fellow from Korea named
- Á¶¼±ÀϺ¸ À±Á¤È£ ±âÀÚ 2006-2007 ´Ï¸¸ Æç·Î¿ì·Î ¼±Á¤

The Asia Foundation and the Sungkok Journalism Foundation will support Mr. Jungho Yoon, staff writer at the political desk of Chosun Ilbo, the largest circulating daily newspaper in Korea, to take part in the Nieman Journalism Fellowship program at Harvard University. Mr. Yoon has been with the Chosun Ilbo for fifteen years and has written extensively on domestic politics and North Korea as well as recently heading Chosun Ilbo¡¯s new initiative in Internet TV news broadcast ¡°Freshly Squeezed Issues¡± as its anchor.

"North Korea: 2005 and Beyond" is a new book edited by Philip Yun, The Asia Foundation's vice president for resource development, and Gi-Wook Shin, director of the Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (APARC) at Stanford University. The volume offers a variety of perspectives on North Korea and consists of ten papers authored by leading scholars in politics, economics, human rights, and security. Among the contributors to this book are Phillip Yun and Scott Snyder, Senior Associate at The Asia Foundation.

Boeing joins Friends of The Asia Foundation

The Boeing International Corporation joined FoTAF as a corporate member in April.


Friends holds 5th Board of Directors Meeting
- ¿ìÈ£Çùȸ ÀÌ»çȸ °³ÃÖ

The Friends of TAF Korea held the 5th Board of Directors Meeting on April 17. Edward Reed and Allen Choate of The Asia Foundation reported on program activities of Korea and the Asia region, including a China-Korea-US seminar and supporting Korea¡¯s capacity for more effective development cooperation in Asia.

Asian Development Bank awards The Asia Foundation two new grants for poverty reduction and citizen empowerment programs
- Àç´ÜÀÇ ºó°ïÅðÄ¡¿Í ½Ã¹Î¿ª·®°­È­ »ç¾÷¿¡ ´ëÇÑ ¾Æ½Ã¾Æ°³¹ßÀºÇàÀÇ Áö¿ø

The Asia Foundation won two new multi-country Asian Development Bank grants to support pilot efforts promoting poverty reduction and citizen empowerment in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan, and the Marshall Islands. These new projects, with funding totaling more than $800,000, will go into effect immediately.


The Asia Foundation receives World Bank Grant to implement legal aid services in post-tsunami Thailand
- ű¹ÀÇ ¾²³ª¹Ì ÇÇÇØÀÚ ¹× ÇÇÇØÁö¿ª¿¡ ´ëÇÑ ¹ý·ü ¼­ºñ½º Á¦°ø »ç¾÷¿¡ ¼¼°èÀºÇà 180¸¸ºÒ Áö¿ø

A $1.8M grant from the World Bank for an 18-month tsunami legal aid project funded by the Japan Social Development Fund will enable the Foundation to open a new Tsunami Legal Aid Referral Center in Krabi Province Thailand. The Center will administer comprehensive legal aid services throughout the tsunami-ravaged southern Thai provinces of Ranong, Phan-gna, Krabi, and Satul, providing critical support for victims and communities.


International study released on Sri Lanka: Conflict, aid, and peacebuilding
- ½º¸®¶ûÄ«ÀÇ ºÐÀï, °³¹ß, ÆòÈ­±¸Ãà: ±¹Á¦ ¿¬±¸Á¶»ç ¹ßÇ¥

An independent study focusing on the relationship between aid, conflict, and peacebuilding in Sri Lanka was recently released. The study was commissioned by The Asia Foundation, the World Bank, and the governments of the Netherlands, Sweden, and the UK. Senior executives from these organizations and governments described the new study as "a seminal study on the relationship between aid, conflict and peacebuilding in Sri Lanka."

Books for Asia to distribute 100,000 books in Mongolia
- ¸ù°í¿¡ 100,000 µµ¼­ Áö¿ø

The Asia Foundation recently signed an important three year agreement with the Children's Book Palace to distribute as many as 100,000 books in Mongolia through the Books for Asia program. The Children's Book Palace is a multi-language youth library established through the Mongolian government, and supported by a variety of international development organizations.
